Calgary’s first Maker Faire is only two months away, and prep is really starting to ramp up!
We had thought we fell behind with some of the paperwork as we’ve been extremely busy with some big projects at Protospace! Luckily enough, the city of Calgary has an events facilitation team that helps with all of the paperwork & permit applications! That should be mostly wrapped up by the end of next week, but in the mean time we are going to be pouring more energy into community engagement for the faire.
We hope to have OpenMake sessions every week leading up to the Calgary Maker Faire either at Protospace, TELUS Spark, Endeavor Art Gallery or another central location. These could be anything from robotics to knitting and everything in-between as we just want to see Calgarians get involved in creating things! Stay tuned for more announcements on that!
Also, The Scoperta Team has been working hard on some fantastic robotic furniture for a Beakerhead workshop that will be happening this weekend. A blog post about it has just been posted on the Protospace website
And if you haven’t already heard, we’ve secured our $6000 grant from Calgary2012! This means that we’ve gotten 1/3 of the way to our tentative funding goals, but there is still a ways to go. If you know a company or organization that would like to take part in sponsoring the faire, direct them to our sponsorship page!
PS – we have some exciting news regarding a few awesome local groups that will be on site during the event, but we still have to confirm them. Announcement on that will be posted soon!
